Eyes as Big as Plates in residence // New York!

Eyes as Big as Plates’ new headquarters for the next two months will be the Intercourse at 159 Pioneer Street in Redhook. Generously hosted by Recess Session, our studio will be welcoming visitors, participants and curious New Yorkers. On display in the studio will be photographs from Finland and Norway, as well as costumes  and new works in progress. We are currently recruiting models for our upcoming photo shoots in and around the city. Please get in touch if you would like to participate!

Alongside the Recess Session, Riitta Ikonen and I are also taking part in Lower Manhattan Cultural Council‘s residency program ‘Seniors Partnering with Artists Citywide’ (SPARC), collaborating with Alison Kuo, Yue Lin and the wonderful people of the City Hall Senior Center.

A very own Eyes as Big as Plates blog has been launched for the occasion, check in for frequent updates throughout the residency!

Mormor i adventskalenderen

God advent!

The World in London

To mark the London Olympics 2012, the Photographers’ Gallery commissioned 204 acclaimed and rising photographers to take pictures of 204 Londoners, born in countries competing in the 30th Olympiad. The World in London exhibition can be seen in two locations this summer: One in Victoria Park, London E3: 27 July – 12 August 2012 and Park House, 453 – 497 Oxford Street, London, W1: 27 July – 30 August 2012.

Riitta and I were honoured to meet Asaad Bazaraa from Oman and had a great day out making sandcastles and photographs together.  Meet him and all the other 203 Londoners here.

Eyes as Big as Plates Finland, new work!

After a brilliant Camouflage opening week at Kiasma in Helsinki, Riitta and Karo toured around the seaside gems of Kotka, the deep eastern forests and lakes of Pohjois-Karjala (these guys’ neck of the woods), and back to the nettle bushes of Espoo – returning with the suitcase full of new work and new friendships with the finest selection of people.

The biggest and warmest of thank yous to all the wonderful models  for their hospitality, stamina, brilliant sense of humour and enthusiasm to get dressed and soaked in all aspects of the marvellous Finnish mosquito-marinated summer flora.

Here’s a little teaser from the work in progress and great day out with Matti Forrst and the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper, hats off for Mr Nettle!
