Eyes as Big as Plates exhibition opening, panel discussion and workshop in Koli National Park, Finland

 
We are excited to share the news of our upcoming Eyes as Big as Plates exhibition in Koli Nature Center Ukko, at the heart of Finland’s national park Koli in North Karelia. 
 
The exhibition is open from the 2nd of May until the 27th of June and presents new works produced as part of the ongoing collaboration with the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in North Karelia, featuring portraits, texts and field notes from our two artist residencies in 2023.

Opening festivities on the 7th of May include an open for all panel discussion, workshop session and open dialogue event “From sense of water to action“, organized in collaboration with the Sense of Water research group and the North Karelia Biosphere Reserve. In addition to Riitta who will be representing the Eyes as Big as Plates duo, the panelists include a local rewilding guru and Eyes as Big as Plates collaborator Janne Raassina, Minna Kukkonen, Senior Planning Officer at ELY-keskus – Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment, Eila Piippo a Koitere resident and a municipality coucil member from Ilomantsi and Anu Penttinen the famous village chief and community organiser from Vuonislahti.

A new school cooperation project will also be presented at the event, where students from two local schools have worked throughout spring to produce their own work with the Eyes as Big as Plates method as a starting point.

A free bus transport from Joensuu will be arranged for the event! The bus leaves the university at 2 p.m. and returns at 8 p.m. Sign up for the free bus here.
